Arabic Barley Soup
 
 
3   small diced onions  
1 cup    dried barley  
1/2 cup    dried lentils  
6 cups    water  
2 Tbs    olive oil  
1 tsp    dried mint  
1 tsp    turmeric  
1/2 tsp    ground black pepper  
1 cup    cooked or canned chick peas  
 
1 Saute onions in hot olive oil, oil spray or broth until golden. Combine all ingredients except for the chick peas in a large pot. Bring to a boil.Reduce heat and simmer approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
2 Add chick peas, heat through about 10 minutes.
